Importance of Infographics in Education

“Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow”- Anthony J D’Angelo

A positive and radical change in the technological sphere has influenced the lives of many. The realm of perfection seems to conquer the technological arena. Education has opened its doors to advancements, realized the value of quality education, and created a path towards revamping the present educational scenario. Right from replacing plain textbooks to ones with infographics, schools have been able to showcase exemplary results.

The importance of infographics is realized by educational institutions as a mode of retaining and redefining the shackles of traditional teaching methods.

Infographics play a pivotal role in disseminating knowledge to pupils and making them understand better. Splendid infographics should have a compelling story and be visually appealing to emphasize the content.

Types of Infographics:

Let’s get a peek into the types and importance of infographics in a school curriculum.

1. Statistical infographics: Infographics with data and numbers are the most important forms of illustration available. Data can be boring, but when displayed creatively can motivate pupils to pay attention to numbers. Using large bold text to depict the storyline can become a boon for many to illustrate the data in an order that makes the most sense to the storyline.

2. Informational- This form of an infographic is equally as popular as it emphasizes text-based information. Combining texts with information gives you an insight into a broad range of templates available. Informational infographics include brochures, instructional guides, and even short presentations. Students like bullet points, numbers, and easy ways to read text fast. A proper storyboard depicting a storyline works wonders.

Importance of Infographics:

The importance of infographics can be realized for the following factors-

a) Increase Attention Span- Pictorial representations of data help in increasing the attention of pupils. A teacher implements and dedicates the first 10-15 minutes to focusing on the importance of infographics. Interactive infographics work wonders in grasping the attention of children. Infographics combined with text, graphics, and illustrations make for a perfect visual treat.

b) Summarize information- A picture speaks a thousand words. Children help understand complex concepts better when they learn and the teachers adapt and emphasize the importance of infographics in their daily teaching method. Teachers can use infographics to summarize information, timeline, and complicated sums with ease for the pupils to get an idea and help them learn better.

c) Enhance Memorization- Infographics play an important role in garnering the span of attention of students and help enhance memorization. It has been reported that on average, people remember only 10% of the information they see through their naked eyes for three days whereas visual representations increase the power of recall to 65%. It has been hence proved that infographics make the act of understanding and retaining longer.

d) Make an everlasting impression- The biggest responsibility of a teacher is to create an everlasting impression on a child through its method of teaching. The study materials should be designed in such a way that they provide ample pictorial representations for a child to be able to learn and retain. Explaining through presentations here takes the cake, for the explicit form of representations contribute towards the span of attention.

Conclusion-

Infographics make learning smarter and easily understandable. They help shape and mold a curriculum according to learners’ needs and requirements. Teaching through infographics makes the process easier and fun for it helps students inculcate learning on their own and adapt best practices to enhance the learning process.
