Let’s make Maths Awesome

Maths as a discipline represents fear and anxiety among young minds. There seems to be none who hasn’t in their lifetime have faced difficulties in solving sums. The relentless peer pressure adds to the stress quotient, although the crux of solving a mathematical problem depends solely on a child’s understanding of the subject. A child might master the subject or become a passive participant, owing to varied reasons.

Teachers, form an integral part in shaping a student’s understanding and identifying his struggles in a discipline. The teacher in the whole process of learning and understanding acts as a torchbearer for a child. This relentless process of knowledge transfer can be made effortless in the following ways-

1. Learn Maths through Games– Every child has the capability of learning things differently at their own pace. A teacher needs to be patient with every child and identify their problematic areas. Introduce Games for excitement and competition in the classroom to help students learn maths better.

A game involving numbers, multiplication and subtraction lets a child learn the intricacies of it and apply it in everyday life.

2Use of Visual Aids- Using Visual Aids as a Method of instruction for imparting knowledge on Maths and helping a child grasp the possibilities of a subject can help a child learn Maths well.

3. Focus on students- A teacher should always look out for those students who are not that sound in Maths. Identifying the problematic areas and lending a helping hand to them, letting them explore the hardships on their own proves beneficial for the children in the long run.

A teacher should never demotivate any child failing to understand the subject. They should look out for opportunities in trying to create an equal platform for them.

4Read them Mini Maths Stories- Children will be able to learn and retain better when we read them stories and provide real-life instances. Introducing mathematical concepts and structures through a story helps young minds contextualize them.

5Keep lessons fun and interactive- Making Maths fun and attractive by introducing a few brain teasers and maths hacks and providing them hands-on experience on how to solve the difficult ones garners students’ attention and helps them learn better.
