SHEMFORD FUTURISTIC SCHOOL

LEARNING AT HOME

While growing up, we all have had the traditional classroom work and homework that we carry back so as to keep ourselves engaged with the coursework. The big lumpy bags used to be full of home assignments through which our teachers would make sure we spend our time regularly on the homework table. It was a way of continuous learning beyond the school hours. It teaches us the good old-fashioned values of perseverance and goal-accomplishment.

However, with changing times and a contemporary way of learning, we had to adapt and change the way Shemstars learnt after school.  It is not necessarily work to be don at home but something that the kids learn to do without teacher’s direction. This is a push-based approach where we nudge the kids in the proper direction is aimed at learning to be responsible.

While we all cry about gender neutrality at home, Shemford Futuristic Schools, Guwahati provides a perfect platform to sensitize the kids regarding choices as well as division of labour. Irrespective of gender, kids are encouraged to help their family members in domestic activities, whether it is making their own bed, doing the utensils or even helping collect the laundry.

Homework does not necessarily is associated with academics. Our Shemstars with a well-researched plan to inculcate good habits learn to take responsibility of their own work and be independent of others’ spoon-feeding antics. Not just that, we try to develop emotions of empathy and care for the Shemstars who would think about their classmates, neighbours as well as stray animals and devote themselves to community.

Additionally, we at Shemford Futuristic Schools, Guwahati promote a culture to develop not just academic performance but critical thinking and reasoning. If a child is able to solve 4/5 math problems, then he/she need not worry about the final problem. We would rather have him/her watch a cricket match and calculate the required run rates.

It is this little out of the box initiative that pushes a child to be a better thinker and an agile problem-solver.

Remember, homework is not just a duty, it is a continuum of learning, be it academic or life-lessons.
